Mini family reunion this past weekend |
|
I just got back to Memphis after a four day weekend in Pensacola. My cousins decided to put together a party for our grandmother's 86th birthday party, which was a complete surprise for her. It was fun seeing family I hadn't seen in a while, some I hadn't seen in at least 10 years. My father has two brothers, both have Ph. D.s in Biology, and my dad was a mechanical engineer. Watching them trying to figure out how to connect a Windows XP Media Center laptop to an InFocus projector so we could see images from a trip to Vietnam and a DVD of my cousin's wedding was really interesting to watch. Here these very intelligent guys were having all kinds of trouble getting the software to work properly. Clicking on image files made a demo version of CorelDraw come up that wanted to be registered and take over the image display function. Trying to use the Media Center interface only wanted to display images in My Pictures, not on the CD. And once in the Media Center interface, the laptop and projecter went into some kind of dual monitor mode where the laptop was showing the Windows desktop but the projector was showing a full screen image from the Vietnam gallery.
I'm not familiar with Media Center at all, so I had no way of knowing what to suggest other than to connect one of the two Mac laptops my uncle and cousin had brought with them. The MacOS slideshow option is so nice and easy...
